An intensive driving course puts more training into a shorter period than ordinary weekly lessons.
That can help some learners maintain momentum, but “intensive” should never mean rushing someone to a practical test before they can drive safely and independently. LPD recommends a course only after understanding your current experience and practical-test situation.

If you are planning an intensive course around a practical test, timing matters. You must pass your theory test before booking the ordinary practical car test.
Under the 2026 rules, you book your own practical car test through GOV.UK. An instructor can discuss readiness and give you their reference number, but cannot book the test on your behalf.
Earlier appointments can appear when other learners cancel or DVSA adds availability, but GOV.UK states there is no “cancellation list”.
Content is based on your needs, which may include:
A learner with 25 previous hours needs a different course from a complete beginner.
When the course is in an automatic car, the same licence rule applies: passing the practical test in an automatic leads to automatic-only car entitlement unless you later pass a practical manual test.

Can I pass in one week?
A course can concentrate learning into a short period, but LPD won’t guarantee that any learner will become test-ready or pass within a fixed number of days.
Does the intensive course include the practical-test fee?

Do I need to have passed theory?
You can take lessons before passing theory, but you must pass theory before booking the ordinary practical car test. For a course built around a test date, passing theory early is usually important.
